Film Curation [MSc]

Students Will Take:
 

Two Core Courses

• The Material Of Film Curation (30 Credits)
• The Practice Of Film Curation (30 Credits)
• Work Placement / Creative Practice Course (20 Credits)
   

Subject To Availability, You Can Choose Either A Work Placement With A Host Institution, Where You Will Contribute To An Event Or Film Programme, Or A Creative Practice Project That You Design And Present To An Audience. We Will Provide A Budget For You To Carry Out Either The Placement Or Project.
 

In The Past, Students Have Participated In Work Placements At The National Library Of Scotland Moving Image Archive; Glasgow Short Film Festival; Lux Scotland; Hippodrome Silent Film Festival; And Africa In Motion Film Festival, Among Others.
 

Two Optional Courses
 

Students Are Expected To Take Two Further 20 Credit Options Offered By Film And Television Studies And/Or The School Of Culture And Creative Arts.
 

Optional Courses Can Include, But Are Not Limited To:

• Advanced Topics In Film Studies
• Advanced Topics In Television Studies
• Experimental Art And Media
• Festivals
• Dissertation
   

Students Can Either Complete A 15,000 Word Dissertation Or An Audiovisual Dissertation Comprised Of 6,000 Words Of Writing And 12 Minutes Of Video Content:

• Ftv Postgraduate Dissertation (60 Credits)
   

Teaching Methods Will Include Lectures And Seminars, As Well As Masterclasses And Workshops Led By Visiting Professionals. You Will Be Assessed Through A Variety Of Methods Including Traditional Academic Essays, Oral Presentations, As Well As Different Written Assignments.

Entry requirements for postgraduate taught programmes are a 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent qualification (for example, GPA 3.0 or above) in a relevant subject unless otherwise specified.
 

You are required to submit:

• a personal statement of around 500 words explaining why you want to undertake the MSc Film Curation at Glasgow

• an academic transcript

• a C.V.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

• overall 7.0; two subtests no less than 6.5 and two subtests no less than 7.0
   

Common equivalent English language qualifications
 

All stated English tests are acceptable for admission to this programme:
 

TOEFL (ibt, my best or athome)

• 95 with minimum R 23, L 23, S 22, W 24.

• Tests must have been taken within 4 years 5 months of start date. Combined scores from two tests taken within 6 months of each other can be considered.
   

PTE (Academic or Academic Online)

• 60 with minimum 60 in all subtests.

• Tests must have been taken within 4 years 5 months of start date. Combined scores from two tests taken within 6 months of each other can be considered.
   

Cambridge Proficiency in English (CPE) and Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) 

• 180 overall, no subtest less than 176

• Tests must have been taken within 4 years 5 months, combined scores from 2 tests sat within 6 months of each other can be considered.
   

Glasgow International College English Language (and other foundation providers)

• 65%.

• Tests are accepted for academic year following sitting.
   

University of Glasgow Pre-sessional courses

• Tests are accepted for 2 years following date of successful completion.
   

Alternatives to English Language qualification
 

• Undergraduate degree from English speaking country (including Canada if taught in English)

• Undergraduate 2+2 degree from English speaking country

• Undergraduate 2+2 TNE degree taught in English in non-English speaking country

• Masters degree from English speaking country

• Masters degree (equivalent on NARIC to UK masters degree) taught in English in non-English speaking country.
   

For international students, the Home Office has confirmed that the University can choose to use these tests to make its own assessment of English language ability for visa applications to degree level programmes. The University is also able to accept UKVI approved Secure English Language Tests (SELT) but we do not require a specific UKVI SELT for degree level programmes. We therefore still accept any of the English tests listed for admission to this programm

The MSc is designed for those with some background in film, television, media or communication studies (or related fields, such as art history) who are contemplating, or developing, a career in curation, community and educational projects, events, research or criticism.
 

The programme is designed to provide you with a range of skills that will enable you to develop as:

• a creative and cultural entrepreneur

• an outreach officer in a museum, archive or gallery

• a curator or programmer for cinemas, film festivals, museums, or other exhibition spaces

• a researcher for the film and television industries

• a creative practitioner

• an academic researcher
