We will equip you with the tools to understand how key global challenges are addressed by numerous global actors and institutions in the absence of a world government. The programme is a pathway to a range of academic and non-academic careers, but is particularly suitable for individuals who hope to pursue international careers as policy makers, evidence providers, policy analysts, advisers, advocacy workers, public management consultants and administrators in the wide array of institutions that are involved in addressing global problems.
 

Perspectives from the fields of international relations, public policy and politics will be put to work, illustrated and evaluated against the backdrop of crucial challenges constituting today’s global policy environment:

The modules we outline here provide examples of what you can expect to learn on this degree course based on recent academic teaching. The precise modules available to you in future years may vary depending on staff availability and research interests, new topics of study, timetabling and student demand.
 

Compulsory modules

The compulsory modules of the programme offer a first-hand insight to the structures of global governance, the main global institutions and organisations, and the key challenges the world is facing and global actors are addressing. They also advance your knowledge of the political and working policy environment in which global governance is embedded, and equip you with the skills to conduct independent analyses and research.

• Dissertation

We are looking for graduates with a 2:1 or above in their first degree in a related discipline (social sciences or humanities). While we normally only accept applicants who meet this criteria, if you have a high 2:2 or equivalent, are coming from a different academic background which is equivalent to degree level, or have relevant work experience, we would welcome your application.

• IELTS

  Overall score 6.5. No less than 6.0 in any section.
   

• TOEFL

  Overall score 90 with minimum scores of 21 for writing, 21 for listening, 22 for reading and 23 for speaking.

UK fees per year:
£10,000 full-time; £5,000 part-time
 

International fees per year:
£20,500 full-time

The programme is a pathway to a range of academic and non-academic careers, but is particularly suitable for individuals who hope to work in international, national, regional and non-governmental organisations, as well as private firms that address global problems.
 

Students can also go on and work in government agencies such as the Ministry of Defence and Foreign Office, and the Diplomatic Service. We also expect to provide students for Civil Service Fast Stream and similar programmes.
