Architectural and Urban Design (MSc)

The programme is structured around a series of design projects, augmented by lecture and seminar-based teaching in urban design and contemporary architectural theory.

The programme also involves fieldwork in a selected internationally significant city. Previous destinations include Florence, Olbia, Bari, Mumbai and Kolkata.

These entry requirements are for the 2022/23 academic year and requirements for future academic years may differ. Entry requirements for the 2023/24 academic year will be published on 3 October 2022.

A professional qualification in architecture, usually a five-year programme, with a strong portfolio of design work with clear author/co-author attribution.

You must submit a portfolio as part of your application.

We may consider a four-year qualification in architecture if your portfolio is of sufficient standard, with evidence of further experience in architecture or a similar field, such as art, landscape architecture, urban planning, digital design or industrial design; please contact us to check before you apply.

English language tests
We accept the following English language qualifications at the grades specified*:

• IELTS Academic: total 7.0 with at least 6.0 in each component.
• TOEFL-iBT (including Home Edition): total 100 with at least 20 in each component. We do not accept TOEFL MyBest Score to meet our English language requirements.
• C1 Advanced (CAE) / C2 Proficiency (CPE): total 185 with at least 169 in each component.
• Trinity ISE: ISE III with passes in all four components.
• PTE Academic: total 70 with at least 59 in each component.

On completion of this programme, you will have added a significant qualification to your existing architectural degree, one that is held in high regard by potential employers. The skills and learning you will gain will help you to pursue your career at a higher level, or branch out into a particular specialism.
