Year 1

CORE MODULES

Security Management

This module will provide the core theoretical background necessary for ensuring the security of information systems. The module aims to extend your knowledge of systems and risks management and to identify the problems associated with security management and expand  your ability to better manage security vulnerabilities and integrate security management with the rest of IT management. It provides practical experience of auditing information systems for adequate information security based on industry specific standards.

Computer Security

This module aims to provide an understanding of the tools and techniques needed to protect computers, networks and internet sites from unauthorised intrusion. This will involve studying possible security risks and the application of appropriate technical, defensive mechanisms/tools to counteract cyber crime.

IT & Internet Law
 

This module aims to develop an understanding of legal issues raised by the increased use of communication networks, such as the Internet. In particular the module will focus on the differences and contradictions between the requirements of national, supra-national and global legislative codes.

Digital Forensics
 

This module aims to qualify and equip students with the skills and knowledge required to conduct an investigation (seizure, extraction, and examination of digital evidence from digital devices).

Mental Wealth; Professional Life (Dissertation)
 

Conduct a practical project of a Master level quality related to the scope of the selected MSc programme and develop skills appropriate for a senior computing professional. You will consider the ethical, legal, social, and professional issues, and the dissertation will require appropriate research, analysis, design, implementation, quality assurance, evaluation and project management. You will reflect on the success of the strategies that you employed to further develop your reflective skills, self-awareness, 'life style' and self-care approaches and where necessary improve your approaches.

Year 2

CORE MODULES

Industrial Sandwich Placement

The aim of this module is to enable you to undertake a placement in a relevant industrial environment to develop their technical and professional skills, within a real work environment to compliment their programme of study.

English Language requirements

Overall IELTS 6.0 overall with minimum 6.0 in writing and speaking, and 5.5 in listening and reading(or recognised equivalent)

If you do not meet the academic English language requirements for your course, you may be eligible to enrol onto a pre-sessional English programme. The length of the course will depend on your current level of English and the requirements for your degree programme. We offer a 5-week and an 11-week pre-sessional course.

There is a shortage of skilled personnel in the fields of information security and digital forensics, and graduates of this programme can progress to work in multinational organisations including cybercrime-fighting agencies. In addition, the course will prepare you to sit for ACE Certification (FTK).

"It says it is 'gravely concerned' that some police forces do not have enough resources to investigate online abuse. Some forces are seizing hundreds of computers each year but have only a handful of officers to examine them.
