The MSc Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology, one of the only courses of its kind in the world, fully integrates positive psychology and coaching psychology to create an innovative training programme for those promoting wellbeing.

This course is available in the following three options:

There is a growing recognition within the world's coaching and positive psychology community that such integration is an important step forward, providing clients with a more open-minded approach to their mental health. From the point of view of positive psychology, the course will have a strong foundation in cutting-edge theory and research relating to wellbeing. The coaching element will feature advanced training in working with clients and groups in professional capacities.

Our aim is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to be able to help people and organisations to flourish. It combines the study of cutting-edge empirical research and theory on wellbeing with the practical skills and competencies you need to apply this expertise in the real world. The result is a course designed to empower students to truly make a positive difference in the world.

Our course is accredited at Master Practitioner level by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC). After graduating you will be able to apply for the Foundation, Practitioner, Senior Practitioner and, eventually, Master Practitioner level according to your level of experience.

CORE MODULES

Perspectives on Individual Wellbeing (Mental Wealth)

This module will take you through the prevalent Positive Psychology theories, the main research findings and their applications. You will explore a variety of topics under the umbrella of individual wellbeing both from a critical and practical perspective. You will also learn how to assess positive psychology constructs such as positive emotions and satisfaction with life. You will also learn about the application of Positive Psychology interventions to coaching and to evaluate each topic in relation to your own life experience.

Coaching Theory and Practice
Flourishing Within Organisations

This module will take you through the Positive Psychology theories and concepts that focus on the systemic and contextual aspects and dimensions of wellbeing. You will adopt a multidimensional approach, with a particular focus on systemic and socio-cultural dimensions in order to appreciate the range of existing and potential applications of Positive Psychology and Coaching to educational, organisational and public policy contexts. You will gain an understanding of the key historical, philosophical, social and political issues and you will consider key eudemonic topics relating to Positive Psychology and its applications.

Research in Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology I

Coaching Theory and Practice
This module will take you through the core theories and practice of evidence-based coaching and the cross-fertilisation between coaching and positive psychology. You will build a range of effective coaching practical and professional skills that allow competent integration of theoretical models and approaches. Theories and techniques will be evaluated by reference to empirical research and conceptual analysis. You will develop a critical understanding through reflective learning, coaching supervision, peer learning and exploration of research and psychological theories underpinning coaching. At the end of this module you will be expected to have developed as an effective, reflective practitioner.

Entry Requirement
Students must have at least a 3-year Second Division Honours Bachelor of Arts, Science or Commerce (minimum length 3 years), or BEng, BAgriculture, B Laws, B Medicine, B Dentistry (3 years Bachelor of Arts, Science or Commerce, BTech etc - i.e. not Honours also acceptable) and have scored an average of 50% or above from the following Universities: Delhi; Mumbai; Pune; Kolkata; Chennai; Anna; Bharatiyar; MSU Baroda; Bangalore 55% or above from all other recognised institutions.

When you graduate from this course you will operate as a more flexible consultant or practitioner in a rapidly developing and increasingly sought-after field.

You will be well versed in relevant scientific literature, with the confidence to apply it in your professional practice.

This may involve working with individuals on a one-to-one basis through Positive Psychology or Executive Coaching or working at organisational level using positive organisational scholarship.

There is a significant demand for the skills that this integrated course develops. The field of coaching, for instance, is growing dramatically judging by the amount of research output and the degree of recognition it is now receiving from employers as well as educational and governmental institutions. According to the International Coach Federation (ICF), by 2017, the coaching industry was believed to be a $2 billion global industry.
