Program Overview

The aim of this 12-month Master's programme is to engage you in creative and experimental processes and to enhance your ability to grasp complex design ideas.

Design of any scale responds to - and in parallel leads - cultural and social change. Our everyday living changes rapidly. The changing demographics, the emergence of new technologies, shift the way in which we inhabit, use and share spaces.

What is the role of design in the rapidly changing contemporary conditions? What is the office space of the future like? What is the library of the future? What is the shop of the future?

Through our MA in Interior Design programme, we address some of the above questions in a rigorous, experimental and creative manner. Through a fun and hands-on approach we will debate and challenge one another on some of the most current and 'hot' design-related questions.

Year 1

CORE MODULES

Advanced Interior Design 1

The aims of this module are:
- To develop an in-depth understanding of the contemporary discourse on Interior Design.
- To develop advanced design and representational skills and methods.
- To develop the ability to contextualise design; to develop the ability to understand the links between design and other cultural and everyday phenomena.
Advanced Interior Design 2

The aims of this module are:
- To develop an in-depth understanding of the contemporary discourse on Interior Design.
- To develop advanced design and representational skills and methods.
- To develop the ability to contextualise design; to develop the ability to understand the links between design and other cultural and everyday phenomena.
- To develop a professional ethos and attitude.
Interior Design Theory 1

The aims of this module are:
- Gain a good understanding of a number of interior design precedents and of the relevant underpinning design principles.
- Develop the ability to read, research, analyse, understand and communicate a thorough understanding of design-related literature and design precedents.
Interior Design Theory 2

The aims of this module are:

Gain a good understanding of a number of interior design precedents and of the relevant underpinning design principles.
Develop the ability to read, research, analyse, understand and communicate a thorough understanding of design-related literature and design precedents.

Interior Design Thesis

The main aims of this module are:
- To research in depth on a concept or theme relevant to interior design, and gain in-depth knowledge and expertise.
- To develop a professional ethos and attitude.
- To consolidate a body of work and communicate it successfully in different contexts and to different audiences.
- -To develop the ability to reflect critically, discuss, represent visually and in writing complex design ideas.
Professional Practice (Mental Wealth)

The main aims of this module are:
- To develop a range of professional, communication and representational skills (including computer skills, web-presence skills, verbal presentation skills).
- To consolidate a body of work and communicate it successfully in different contexts and to different audiences.
- To develop the ability to reflect critically, discuss, represent visually and in writing complex design ideas.
- To work both independently and as part of a team.
Entry Requirement
Students must have at least a 3-year Second Division Honours Bachelor of Arts, Science or Commerce (minimum length 3 years), or BEng, BAgriculture, B Laws, B Medicine, B Dentistry (3 years Bachelor of Arts, Science or Commerce, BTech etc - i.e. not Honours also acceptable) and have scored an average of 50% or above from the following Universities: Delhi; Mumbai; Pune; Kolkata; Chennai; Anna; Bharatiyar; MSU Baroda; Bangalore 55% or above from all other recognised institutions.

On the completion of this course you will have developed both advanced design skills and the experience to develop yourself advanced creative design methods and processes. You will be ready to work as an interior designer and in a range of design-related industries, such as retail design, stage set design, exhibition design etc. Through our links with external partners, organisations and galleries, we organise exhibitions of our students work in prominent venues in London.
