Program Overview

The programmes at the University of Bristol have run since 2010 and are delivered in partnership with North Bristol NHS Trust, which includes a large regional neurosciences and major trauma centre. Our clinical programmes aim to engage and inspire clinicians to enhance their skills in Clinical Neuropsychology and support entry on to the British Psychological Society’s (BPS) Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists (SRCN). This diploma is designed to support the adult knowledge and practice component of the competency requirements for advanced training in clinical neuropsychology.

This diploma is similar to our MSc in Clinical Neuropsychology, however it allows you to bring forward learning and case experience from your DClin in order to streamline the postdoctoral training required to enter the SRCN.

Around 80% of the taught content is delivered by practising clinicians, and you will learn about a range of neuropsychological disorders and pathologies as well as focusing on principles of assessment, formulation and rehabilitation.

In order to accrue relevant clinical experience, it is your responsibility to secure both employment within a neuropsychology service and supervision for your work when enrolled on the programme. We provide additional oversight and support towards developing your portfolio and ensuring your experience demonstrates the required competencies for entry to the SRCN. Support includes feedback on two written case reports and a practice viva experience. This support is provided by clinicians with experience of conducting portfolio vivas for the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN).

Course Content
The diploma consists of five taught units (total of 90 credits) and a 40-credit clinical practice portfolio that delivers the equivalent to the QiCN portfolio requirements.

Three of the five taught units are delivered via lectures (total of 70 credits). A further unit (ten credits) focuses on a clinical case report; you must select one of your own cases to submit an assessed case report (3,000 words) and a presentation. This case will contribute to your case portfolio. In the fifth unit (ten credits), you will explore important peer-reviewed papers and engage in critical discussion. Each critical discussion will be preceded by a candidate presentation providing a critical summary of a particular paper.

All lectures are streamed live on the internet and recorded for you to replay at any point. There are four week-long teaching blocks that are spread throughout the course. You will have two week-long teaching blocks a year (one in around Autumn and one around Spring) if you are studying part-time. You are encouraged to attend in-person but this is not mandatory. Otherwise, weekly lectures are delivered online meaning you can take the programme from home or work, and exams will be held online.
Entry Requirement
Applicants who hold a bachelor's degree from an accepted Indian university with a minimum of GPA of 6/10 or 60% will be considered for admission to a master's degree (the requirement will depend on your undergraduate university and the programme you have applied for).
Applicants to our Law programmes can be considered with minimum grades of 55-60% from an accepted Indian university.
Applicants who hold a first class master's degree from a prestigious university will be considered for admission to PhD study.
