Program Overview

This programme is aimed at talented graduates seeking to develop or enhance their expertise in the fields of environmental policy, management, protection and advocacy.

It is led by the School of Geographical Sciences, ranked #1 in the UK for 'Geography and environmental studies' research (THE analysis of REF 2021) and a highly regarded centre for research and teaching in environmental processes, systems and the social sciences. Staff in the school have been directly involved in advising the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and regularly engage with policymakers, industry and non-profit organisations at local, national and international levels.

The programme is closely affiliated with the University's Cabot Institute, which promotes multidisciplinary research around global environmental change and benefits from our location in the city of Bristol, the UK's first ever European Green Capital and a vibrant hub of environmental activism and technological innovation.

Through a demanding academic curriculum and practice-based learning opportunities, you will develop the skills and knowledge needed for employment in the public, private and non-profit sectors.

Course Content
Year 1

The following units are must pass for the award of an MSc: GEOGM1409, and ONE of GEOGM0013 and GEOGM0010

Unit name

Students must take the following units:
- Dissertation: MSc Environmental Policy and Management
- Practical Statistics for Use in Research and Policy
- An Introduction to GIS and Remote Sensing for Environmental Policy and Management
- Environmental Policy and Politics
Select 60 credit points from:
- Qualitative Research Methods in Human Geography
- Climate Change: Science and Impacts
- Conflicted Environments: Studying environmental social movements from the grassroots
- Sustainability, Risk and Resilience in the Urban Age
- Global Development and Environment: History, Theory, Practice
- Consultancy Project
- UK Environmental Policy in Practice: Agriculture, Conservation and Water
Entry Requirement
Applicants who hold a bachelor's degree from an accepted Indian university with a minimum of GPA of 6/10 or 60% will be considered for admission to a master's degree (the requirement will depend on your undergraduate university and the programme you have applied for).
Applicants to our Law programmes can be considered with minimum grades of 55-60% from an accepted Indian university.
Applicants who hold a first class master's degree from a prestigious university will be considered for admission to PhD study.
