MSc Civil Engineering: January Start

Our MSc Civil Engineering: January Start course is delivered through a variety of teaching and learning methods to give you the fullest experience. In many cases, we focus on case studies and apply academic theory to real-life scenarios using a blended style of teaching. You can expect structured lectures, tutor-led individual and group sessions, discussions and seminars, as well as online learning.
 

You’ll be assessed throughout the course in a number of different ways, including assignments, individual and group presentations, discussions, reports, written and oral examinations and design processes such as calculations, specifications, drawings and models.

• You should hold at least an upper second class (2.1) honours degree in Civil Engineering.
• Applicants with a lower second class (2.2) honours degree in Civil Engineering will be considered on a case by case basis and evidence of significant relevant learning/work experience following graduation will be expected.
• Applicants with other qualifications equivalent to the above that are deemed acceptable to the University will be considered.
• We'll also consider applications where appropriate work experience can be demonstrated in lieu of, or in addition to, the published academic qualifications in line with the University’s Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) procedures.
• You may be required to attend an interview and/or provide a portfolio of work.
• If English isn’t your first language, you’ll also need IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band (or equivalent). 

Overseas students starting this course in the first year will be required to pay a Overseas fee of £12,950

Postgraduate studies in civil engineering are ideal if you would like to broaden and deepen your technical knowledge of specialised civil engineering areas and develop a wider perspective and understanding of the issues facing the civil engineering industries. The course is designed for those who have already graduated with a civil engineering or engineering-related degree.
 

While studying this programme, you'll have the opportunity to develop a range of transferable skills. These include problem-solving, research skills, analysis of complex sets of information, using concepts and theories to make engineering judgments, critical thinking, creativity, communication, teamwork, commercial awareness, and health and safety.
