Program Overview

Toxicology is an expanding field with good career prospects. The MRes is a 1-year full-time programme that provides a research-orientated extension of a molecular biology background into the subject of molecular mechanistic toxicology. We strive to provide a lively, highly interactive teaching and research environment. Training is provided by members of Academia, Industry, Hospitals and Government Institutes.

Course Content
- Students engage in specialised teaching and learning modules that cover key aspects of nanoscience, ensuring a thorough academic foundation.
- The programme provides an extensive understanding of nanoscience, including its environmental and human health risks, fundamental science, applications, synthesis, and policy and regulatory responses.
- A significant portion of the programme is dedicated to an independent, supervised research project conducted in state-of-the-art laboratories, which may include experimental, field-based, or modelling research.
- The course is a joint effort between the Environmental Health Science group in the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, and the School of Biosciences, with concurrent taught and research elements.

Important Dates

The programme begins in September 2024. Prospective applicants are encouraged to start the application process early, ensuring they have ample time to meet all requirements, such as English proficiency exams (IELTS or TOEFL). It is recommended to begin preparations roughly one year in advance and to submit applications around six months prior to the start date.
Entry Requirement
Holders of a Bachelors degree of three or four years in duration from a recognised university in India will be considered for postgraduate taught study. Holders of Bachelors degree will normally be expected to have achieved 55% - 60% or higher for 2:1 equivalency, or 50% - 55% for 2:2 equivalency depending on the awarding institution.
Either: A four-year Bachelors degree (first class or very good upper second class).
Or: A three-year Bachelors degree (first class) from recognised institutions in India.
For MSc programmes, the Business School will consider holders of three-year degree programmes (first class or very good upper second class) from recognised institutions in India.
For entry to LLM programmes, Birmingham is happy to accept applications from 3 or 5 year LLB holders from India from prestigious institutions.
