Program Overview

Develop a critical and practical understanding of sport management and development, coaching, physical education and the sociology and psychology of sport.This degree is designed for those who wish to examine the role of sport, health and physical activity within society.You'll have the opportunity to develop a fundamental understanding of sport management and development, coaching and physical education, and the sociology and psychology of sport. You will also develop an advanced understanding of at least one of these areas of study. You’ll consider the contributions sport makes to society and assess whether and how sport can be improved. You will study against the backdrop of the University’s world-class multi-sport training environment.

- Studying sport 1: knowledge, ethics, and communication
- Coaching and physical education
- Psychology and sociology of sport, exercise, and health
- Sport management and development
Year 2
- Studying sport 2: research methods
At least two units from:
- Applied coaching and performance management
- Sociology of sport and health
- Sport marketing and promotions
- At least one unit from:
- Physical education policy and society
- Sport media
- Sport and the global economy
- At least one unit from:
- Leisure, tourism, and the environment
- Sport, exercise, and health psychology
- Sport policy and development
Year 3
- Sport management and coaching professional placement
Year 4
- Studying sport 3: dissertation
- Sport and social change
Three units from:
- Advanced issues in coaching
- Advanced issues in physical education
- Advanced issues in the sociology of sport and health
- Advanced issues in sport, exercise, and health psychology
- Advanced issues in sport management
- Advanced issues in sport for development
Entry Requirement
Your application, especially your personal statement, should demonstrate your enthusiasm for studying sport or coaching. This might include relevant reading or involvement in sport clubs or teams. When describing your experiences you should reflect on what you have learnt from them, how they have influenced your development or how they are relevant to your future studies. Your enthusiasm and experiences are more important than which subjects you have previously studied.

You do not need to have studied Sport or Physical Education before to join this course.

Higher Secondary School Certificate (12th Standard)
- An average of 85% across four subjects with 85% in Mathematics and Physics.
- Do not accept Physical Education as one of these four subjects.
- These requirements are for the CBSE and CISCE boards.
- A levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma
English language requirements
- Category C
You will normally need one of the following:
- IELTS: 6.5 overall with no less than 6.0 in all components
- IELTS Indicator: 6.5 with 6.0 in each component
- TOEFL IBT: 90 overall with a minimum 21 in all 4 components
- TOEFL IBT and IBT Special Home Edition: 90 overall with 21 in each component
