Compulsory course units

These compulsory units are currently being studied by our students, or are proposed new units.
 

Semester one

Compulsory units
 

You will take these units:

• Econometrics for finance
• Theory of financial decision making
• Banking
• Optional units
   

You will select two of these units:

• Financial derivatives
• Investment management
• Introduction to quantitative finance
• Corporate governance
• You can also choose to take an extra Director of Studies approved unit.
   

Semester two

Compulsory units
 

You will take these units:

• Financial econometrics
• Financial engineering
• Corporate finance

Typically, we require a Bachelor degree with a final overall result of at least First Class. However, due to the number of different grading scales in use, we ask that you upload a copy of the grading scale used by your institution, along with your transcript, when you submit your application.
 

Type of degree
 

• Your degree can be in any discipline but you must have studied a subject with quantitative content.
• If you studied your undergraduate degree in the UK, your qualification must be equivalent to a 2:1 or above.
• We may make an offer based on a lower grade if you can provide evidence of your suitability for the degree.

Work experience
 

In exceptional cases, relevant work experience may be a substitute for the degree requirement. You should have no more than three years’ relevant work experience.
 

English language requirements
 

IELTS

You will need an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of at least 6.5 overall. Your scores for reading, writing, listening and speaking must be at least 6.0.
 

These results must be no more than two years old from the start date of your MSc course.

For MSc Finance, MSc Finance with Banking and MSc Finance with Risk Management combined:
 

• 40% work in banking
• 25% work in finance
• 12% work as an analyst
• 7% work in auditing
