All year (semester 1 and semester 2)
 

• Advanced interdisciplinary research design (collaboratively delivered unit)
   

Semester 1
 

• Qualitative methods 1
• Principles and skills of social research
• Global transformations: issues and trajectories (collaboratively delivered unit)
• Either Econometrics for economics and finance or Quantitative methods 1: introduction to quantitative methods
   

Semester 2
 

• Either Financial econometrics or Quantitative methods 2
   

Plus one unit from:
 

• Environmental and resource economics
• Qualitative methods 2
• Independent research essay
• International organisations in world politics
• Director of Studies approved unit

Typically, you should have a Bachelor degree with a final overall result of at least First Class. However, due to the number of different grading scales in use, we ask that you upload a copy of the grading scale used by your institution, along with your transcript, when you submit your application.
 

To apply for this course you should have an undergraduate degree in economics, history, geography, sociology, international relations or politics.
 

We may make an offer based on a lower grade if you can provide evidence of your suitability for the degree.
 

If you have graduated within the last 5 years from an Indian university where the medium of instruction is English and have achieved the required level of English in your Indian 12th Standard examinations, we may be able to assess your English. More information can be found here.
 

English language requirements
 

• IELTS: 6.5 overall with no less than 6.0 in all components

• The Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): 62 with no less than 59 in any element

• TOEFL IBT: 90 overall with a minimum 21 in all 4 components
   

You will need to get your English language qualification within 24 months prior to starting your course.

The course aims to equip you for a career as a professional researcher in an academic or non-academic environment by developing your core research skills. You'll be encouraged to review and critically evaluate approaches to research and their application, and to identify and investigate your own original research questions.
