The course is typically studied over two semesters (September to May) as a top-up to degree. Programme and module content are subject to ongoing review. 

The modules currently include:

- Nursing Science in a Global Health Context (NUS620)

- Professional Knowldege for Nursing in the United KIngdom (NUS610)

- Preparation for Nursing OSCE Assessment (NUS611)

- Research project (NUS619)

All applicants to the University (from the UK and overseas) are required to show evidence of a minimum English language level in order to be accepted on to our courses.

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires that every student from outside the UK and the EU must show evidence of a minimum level of English language in order to be granted a UK Student Visa to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

This level is often referred to as the ‘B2 level’.

• Most of our courses require a minimum English level of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent, with no band score under 5.5.
• Trinity ISE: Pass at level III (with a pass in each component) also meets this requirement.
• For September 2022 entry, we are accepting IELTS Indicator.
• Some of our courses ask for a higher score. It is therefore important to look at individual course requirements.
• If you meet the English language level for entry to your chosen course, you will also meet the minimum English language level required by UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) for a Student Visa.
• If you do not meet the English language requirement we may give you a conditional offer subject to you meeting the requirement before the commencement of the course.
• We accept a wide range of alternative English language examinations and tests so please check the list of other accepted tests.

The cost of studying at Ulster University varies largely depending on the type of university and the degree chosen. More often than not, humanities, arts, and education courses are less expensive than degrees in medical, engineering, or management. Furthermore, students who choose to study at the postgraduate level typically pay higher tuition fees, which again vary depending on the programme chosen.

Most universities provide scholarships or financial aid to students in order to help them offset their tuition costs. Students should be aware that additional course fees and incidental expenses may not be included in tuition. On average, international students can expect to pay £14,910 annually, to study in Ulster University.

Career options

BSc Hons Nursing Science (Nursing Practice in the UK)

Upon successful completion of this programme, you will be awarded a BSc (Hons) Nursing Science. This programme does not include a professional award and therefore does not automatically lead to registration as a nurse in the UK. However, by studying the Nursing Practice in the UK pathway you will be supported to prepare for the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Test of Competence Part 2 (OSCE). If you are interested in registering as a nurse in the UK, you must check your eligibility with the NMC.

After you complete the BSc (Hons) Nursing Science (Nursing Practice in the UK) programme and, if you meet the NMC eligibility criteria and the NMC English language requirments, you may then choose to apply for registration as a nurse in the UK. You will need to progress through the NMC application assessment process which is between you and the NMC. As part of this process, you will be required to undertake the Test of Competence Part 1 (CBT) and Part 2 (OSCE). Part 2 OSCE must be undertaken at an NMC Competence Test Centre in the UK. If your application to register as a nurse with the NMC is successful, and, subject to UKVI regulations, you will be able to apply for a post as a registered nurse in the UK.
