Module content develops your understanding of the principles underpinning clinical practice in trauma and orthopaedics and your skills in evidence-based practice, research methods and statistics.

Course structure
Year 1 core modules
Developing Research Projects

You gain the knowledge and skills you need to design and manage a primary or secondary research audit or evaluation project that’s relevant to your practice. You also cover research governance and ethics, and prepare for applying for ethical approval or release. And we prepare you for your dissertation if you choose to progress to the master’s course.

Implementing Evidence Based Practice

You gain the knowledge and skills to use research evidence to inform your clinical practice. You develop focused questions, undertake a structured search, critically evaluate research evidence, apply evidence to practice and evaluate the application to practice. The module also supports you in making the transition to studying at master’s level.

Practical Statistics

You gain a solid grounding in the statistical concepts needed in analysing basic health and medical data. The indicative content provides an overview of the basic concepts in statistics. It leads you from understanding basic fundamentals up to multivariate analysis.

Trauma and Orthopaedics

You will further develop your knowledge and understanding of a range of relevant applied orthopaedic science topics such as anatomy and physiology, surgical anatomy, orthopaedic pathology, biomechanics, clinical assessment and investigation, evidence-based orthopaedic disease management and clinical decision making, and trauma management.

 
Year 2 core modules
Dissertation and Research Article

You plan, undertake and write up a research project relevant to your subject. A range of research methodologies can be utilised such as quantitative, qualitative, systematic review, evaluation and audit methods. You will also gain experience in writing a research article for publication.
