Sotheby's Institute of Art is a graduate school established in 1969. It is a for-profit, private school of higher learning devoted to the study of art and its markets. In 1995, the Department of Art History and Archaeology at the University of Manchester conferred Sotheby's the designation of Affiliated Institution. The institute provides two-week and month-long certificate programmes throughout the summer on a variety of subjects, including provenance research, art appraisal, and curation.
