Program Overview

Explore how the principles and practice of effective and fair public healthcare can inform health policy and healthcare systems in national and local settings This course focuses on the theoretical and practical principles of solidarity in healthcare systems. You’ll study the links between health systems and social, political, economic, and cultural issues within countries and themes.

Focus on the social determinants of health; the interface between politics and policy and social justice
Gain an understanding of competition and trade law and regulation and its application to public healthcare
Learn how effective primary care can act as a platform for effective public health action
Benefit from strong links to the NHS, local authorities, policymakers and leading international figures in global health
Go on to work in health policy and other fields of public health and public policy with a global perspective

Course Content
The programme is led by the Centre for Primary Care and Public Health in collaboration with the School of Law, and the School of Business and Management.

Strong emphasis is placed on research methods and analytic techniques for practical application or further research, and research methods are integrated into many modules. This broad approach provides the context for collaborative interdisciplinary work. You will be able to address the challenges facing public health and public policy across a range of contexts. Your ability to plan and develop services and advocate for them will be greatly enhanced, and your effectiveness in delivering healthcare and public services will be increased.

A 2:2 or above at undergraduate level in a Life Sciences subject.

Student Visa Regulations

If you will require a Student visa to study in the UK, you must meet the minimum English Language requirements to meet the UKVI regulations. The minimum IELTS requirement is 5.5 in all four skills (Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening). However, many of our courses require higher grades.
