Biomedical engineering is a rapidly developing field that relies on interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach to research and development. Specialists in this area face problems that differ significantly from the more traditional branches of engineering. Biomedical engineers use methods and techniques developed in more traditional engineering fields and adapt them to the particular specifications of the biomedical applications.

By the end of this programme, you’ll have the skills to develop new computational and technology products for use in the biomedical industries. You’ll also acquire extensive knowledge of computational fluid mechanics, with a focus on biomedical applications such as biomechanics, bio-fluids and tissue engineering.

Your research project forms a major part of your degree. It provides you with an excellent opportunity to take part in the internationally leading research that takes place within the School of Engineering and Materials Science (SEMS). You’ll join one of our research teams and work on a biomedical engineering related project, supervised by a member of academic staff.

Our excellent laboratory facilities will enable you to conduct cutting-edge research, enabling you to publish your findings at scientific conferences and in peer reviewed journals.

Our Biomedical Engineering MSc has been accredited by IMechE, on behalf of the Engineering Council and a suffix "EngC Pathway" will be added to the degree title when a student satisfies the accreditation requirements.

Progression and award requirements for an accredited MSc are stricter than these requirements for a standard QMUL degree. If a student does not satisfy the accreditation requirements, but does satisfy the requirements for a standard QMUL degree, the "EngC Pathway" suffix will not be added.

We accept a wide range of European and international qualifications in addition to A-levels, the International Baccalaureate and BTEC qualifications. 

Student Visa Regulations

If you will require a Student visa to study in the UK, you must meet the minimum English Language requirements to meet the UKVI regulations.  The minimum IELTS requirement is 5.5 in all four skills (Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening).  However, many of our courses require higher grades.

Pre-sessional English Language Courses

If you fall slightly below our standard English language requirements, you may consider one of our Pre-sessional English courses.  Please note that you will require a UK government approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) for entry to our Thirteen week pre-sessional courses.  Currently, only IELTS for UKVI, PTE Academic (UKVI), LanguageCert International ESOL SELT and Trinity College London, Integrated Skills in English (ISE) are accepted.
