Do you want to become an outstanding psychology teacher? Our specialist PGCE Psychology is a direct route to a career of which you can be proud. Psychology helps you understand yourself and other people; this course supports you to develops a range of teaching tools appropriate to the delivery of Psychology within the GCSE/A Level specifications. Our Psychology PGCE addresses the main areas of psychology, research methods, biopsychology, developmental, cognitive, social and psychopathology. It is a truly contemporary subject which is relevant to all our pupils’ lives. This course aims to produce dynamic, confident, and innovative teachers who are committed to developing students’ curiosity about human behaviour.

We aim to train you as a Psychology teacher at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 with enhancement. The main focus of your training will be through your specialist subject. Furthermore, our PGCE Psychology trainees take up ‘enhancements’ linked to other curriculum subjects e.g sciences, pastoral education or special education needs and diversity.

Entry Requirement
Applicants must have a degree of class 2:2 or above and GCSE English and Mathematics at grade 4 or grade C or above (or an equivalent qualification). You will have experience of working with young people.

In addition:
- A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is required.
- We have a responsibility to ensure that trainees have the health and physical capacity to teach. Candidates must meet the Secretary of State’s requirements for physical and mental fitness to teach as detailed in ‘Fit to Teach’ by completing an on-line medical questionnaire.
- The Skills tests no longer exist as an entry requirement however, all teachers are expected to be competent in fundamental English and Mathematics. We will be assuring that trainees have these skills either during the selection process, or later during the training programme.
- It is not essential that candidates have school experience when they apply for a PGCE course, however, we recommend that candidates obtain observation experience to ensure teaching is the right career for them.
- Candidates must take part in individual and a group interviews with representatives from schools as well as University tutors.
Please note that Level 2 Key Skills in Application of Numbers and Communication or Certificates in Adult Literacy or Numeracy, are not sufficient to meet the entry requirements to a PGCE programme.
