Library and Information Management introduces you to the world of information, in all forms, from digital to analogue across every sector. This CILIP accredited programme is your passport to a career in the information profession.

Recognised and approved by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), this route prepares graduates of all disciplines for a career in the modern information society across all industries.

The taught element is equivalent to a postgraduate diploma and, as a professional qualification, enables progression to chartership in your first professional post.

Your study will focus on the principles for the organisation, retrieval and accessibility of information, and on the strategic management of information organisations, such as libraries, the information landscape, for example online and on the web, and on the development of library services of all kinds. Successful completion of a dissertation develops your knowledge of the field and skills as a researcher resulting in the award of MA. If you are studying the PGDip you will not be required to complete a dissertation.

You may undertake a placement, which we will help you to source, in information units, libraries and other relevant centres, including large corporations, local government, the National Health Service, financial and legal services. This will provide networking opportunities within the library, information and media industries.

Year 1
Core units cover all aspects of information management, from understanding information seeking behaviour to information governance, legislative and regulatory compliance, and research methods surrounding the collection and analysis of information and putting this into practice.

Entry Requirement
You will normally have a second class honours degree or above (or international or professional equivalent) in any discipline.

Overseas applicants will require IELTS with an overall score of 6.5 with no less than 5.5 in any category, or an equivalent accepted English qualification

UK AND CHANNEL ISLAND STUDENTS
Full-time fee: £5,667 to £8,500 per year. Tuition fees will remain the same for each year of your course providing you complete it in the normal timeframe (no repeat years or breaks in study).

EU AND NON-EU INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Full-time fee: £11,000 to £16,500 per year. Tuition fees will remain the same for each year of your course providing you complete it in the normal timeframe (no repeat years or breaks in study).
