Year 1

In Year 1, you’ll build a strong foundation of professional practice skills. Your introductory units will cover musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory, and neurology in detail covering theory and practical sessions.

Year 2

Year 2 has two units of study, the first delivered on campus where you will develop assessment and treatment skills of the musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and neurological systems. The second unit will be a placement.

You’ll build on and integrate the knowledge from year one, focusing on patient management skills. You’ll also undertake three practice placements, supervised by highly qualified clinicians and supported by our academic staff. 

When you go into your second and third years, you’ll complete clinical placements – and you’ll have your own patient caseload.

Year 3

In Year 3, you’ll study four units, with one placement unit (two 5-week placements) and three academic units.

Focusing on evidence-based practice, the transition to professional practice as a new graduate, and research and critical thinking skills. You’ll have the opportunity to select options and use your research knowledge and skills to develop a research proposal. The final unit in year three is a practice placement, that is organised by yourself. This gives you the opportunity to choose a specific area of interest or take a placement overseas.

SPECIFIC GCSE REQUIREMENTS
5 GCSEs Grade C/4 or above to include English Language, Mathematics and Science, excluding Physics and Chemistry .

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
 

• An interview is required for entry on to this course.
• We look for commitment to physiotherapy and it is helpful to have undertaken some work experience or shadowing. It is important that you have a clear and realistic idea of the work of a physiotherapist so that you are able to make an informed choice of career.
• All candidates must have evidence of study at Level 3 or equivalent within the 3 years prior to application and must provide an academic reference.
• A satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required for this programme. In addition, students who have resided outside the UK will  be required to provide evidence of a satisfactory overseas police check. Instructions on how to complete these checks will be provided once you hold a firm offer for this course.
• Satisfactory occupational health clearance is also required to participate in this course.  Pending Government consultation, it is not currently clear if this will include a requirement for students deployed on placement in CQC regulated activities in England to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.  Our placement providers and future employers may require this so, if you are considering this course, we would strongly advise you to take your covid-19 vaccines when due.

International Tuition Fees:

£21500  per year

Graduates from our course usually begin their physiotherapy careers by working as band 5 physiotherapists, on rotation positions in NHS hospitals. Some of our recent graduates are working for Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust and for East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

However, as a chartered physiotherapist, you could work in the NHS or the private sector. The organisations you might work at include hospitals, sports clubs, in the community and care homes, and schools.

You may also decide to refine your skills and specialise in a particular area, such as musculoskeletal, neurological or cardiorespiratory, or focus on women’s health or mental health. To specialise, you’ll need to complete a postgraduate qualification, such as our MSc Advanced Physiotherapy course.
