Program Overview

Taught by research-active academics, our BSc (Hons) Animal Behaviour and Conservation degree has been designed to give a wide-ranging experience for students with real-world relevance. A wide range of field trips and laboratory work has been integrated into the course, allowing students to practice and reflect on their applied knowledge and analytical skills.

The first year of our animal behaviour and conservation course involves core biology, animal behaviour and ecology modules to get everyone up to speed. We’ll introduce key discipline-specific concepts and you’ll develop your academic and research skills.

In the second and third year you begin to apply your knowledge at a deeper level of animal behaviour and conservation, focusing on specific behavioural and conservation techniques and applying these to current case studies. This builds on the skills you’ve already learned and grows your knowledge in specialised areas.

Year 1

Year 1 aims to provide you with a thorough grounding in the biological sciences and an introduction to the study of animal behaviour. Year 2

Year 3

If you opt for the four-year placement or study abroad route, Year 3 will be spent on placement or studying in Europe, North America or Australasia.

Your final year enables you to specialise in animal behaviour and conservation and includes a laboratory or field-based research project.

You will also have an opportunity to attend an overseas residential field course. Typical areas of study include animal behaviour and conservation, movement physiology and ecology and the social life of animals. - Pass Access to HE Diploma in Science with a minimum score of 106 UCAS tariff points, to include relevant biology units.
- Equivalent qualifications and combinations will be considered, including Extended Project (EPQ). AS levels (or qualifications equivalent to AS level) are not accepted.
