MSc Global Media and Communications (LSE and Fudan)

at London School of Economics

The first year at LSE lays solid theoretical and methodological foundation for future media and communications professionals to examine issues of media and communication within their political, social and cultural context. Please note that at LSE we do not provide practical training in journalism, production, campaigning or media management. 

All students in the first year of MSc in Global Media and Communications (LSE and Fudan) will also attend 40 hours of Mandarin language classes at the appropriate level in the LSE Language Centre or the LSE Confucius Institute for Business. Mandarin language assessment does not form part of the MSc assessment, but attendance, for which there is no additional fee to the student, is required for all students on this programme except those already completely fluent in Mandarin.

Theories and Concepts in Media and Communications I (Key concepts and interdisciplinary approaches)*
Addresses key theoretical and conceptual issues in the study of media and communications.

Media and Globalisation*
Explores and demonstrates the role of the media and communications in the processes of globalisation.

Methods of Research in Media and Communications (including Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis)*
Provides general training in research methods and techniques.

Dissertation
An independent research project of 12,000 words on an approved topic.

Second year, at Fudan University
During the second year at Fudan University in Shanghai, you will immerse yourself – via research and applied learning – in Chinese language, culture and media in order to broaden your horizons and enhance your knowledge of China.  

Through various core and optional courses, you will be given the opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of China's multi-media environment in both theoretical and applied contexts.

Minimum entry requirements for MSc Global Media and Communications (LSE and Fudan University)

Upper second class honours (2:1) degree or equivalent in social science, or degree in another field with professional experience in media and communications.
 

Competition for places at the School is high. This means that even if you meet our minimum entry requirement, this does not guarantee you an offer of admission.

Every graduate student is charged a fee for their programme.

The fee covers registration and examination fees payable to the School, lectures, classes and individual supervision, lectures given at other colleges under intercollegiate arrangements and, under current arrangements, membership of the Students' Union. It does not cover living costs or travel or fieldwork.
