Law Graduate Diploma

The GDL begins by introducing the principal features of the English legal system and developing legal research skills. You then study the seven prescribed foundation subjects:  

• Criminal Law 
• Equity and the Law of Trusts 
• European Community Law 
• Property Law 
• Public Law 
• Law of Contract (Obligations I) 
• Law of Tort (Obligations II) 

Project
 

As stipulated by the SRA and BSB, you will be introduced to an additional area of legal study and are required to submit a longer piece of assessed written coursework relating to that area.
 

If you have more than 60 credits from the course you will be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Law. If you have more than 60% credits in exemptions you will be awarded the Professional Diploma.

Applicants will normally hold an undergraduate degree in any subject other than law or a non qualifying law degree with a minimum pass of 2:2.
 

You need to prove to us that you meet the SRA’s requirements for admission to the GDL, and provide evidence for any exemptions that you may request from individual subjects. You need to do that before you start the GDL by providing any documentation we require.

English Language requirements

If English is not your first language, an IELTS score of 7.0 or equivalent is normally required.

Tuition Fees

tuition fees for EU and international students will be £14,750 

This is the conversion course for graduates in subjects other than law or who have a non - qualifying law degree who intend to become solicitors or barristers.
 

It is recognised by the SRA and BSB as satisfying the requirements of the academic stage of training.
