During your Pre-Masters Programme, you will study the following modules:
Advanced Research Methods in Business
This module builds on your knowledge of business research methods and focuses on the rudiments of research including data collection and analysis which are crucial to academic success at Masters’ level in Kingston University. In this module, you will be introduced to the various types of research, statistical techniques and packages for data analysis. The module will also cover data interpretation and presentation techniques.
On successful completion of the module, you will be able to: list and demonstrate critical awareness of the different types of data collection techniques; critically discuss the relevance of qualitative and quantitative research to business organisations and their operations; analyse and interpret statistical data using Excel and SPSS; conduct hypothesis testing and differentiate between null and alternative hypothesis; formulate research question and undertake detailed literature review including due consideration of ethical requirements on chosen topic and also plan and present research findings in a clear and coherent manner accurately citing a range of sources using appropriate academic conventions.
Contemporary Business Issues
The module aims to develop your knowledge of business and management concepts and theories in addition to their importance and application to practise. The course will introduce you to fundamental organisational functions, the business environment, leadership in organisations and human resource management. Key themes include an understanding of strategic change in organisations, organisational marketing practices, supply chain management, operations management, sustainability and innovative practices in organisations.
On successful completion of the module, you will be able to: outline fundamental business and management theories and critically discuss their relevance to contemporary business practise; define organisational structure, culture and business models; differentiate between the internal and external business environments and explain the factors influencing an organisation’s business environments; critically evaluate the effectiveness of leading innovative and sustainability practices adopted by leading business organisations; analyse organisational strategies and their impacts on human resource, business finance, supply chain, operations management and marketing management and deploy good written communication skills to produce a well-structured report and ability to demonstrate commercial awareness.
Introduction to Project Management
The aim of this module is to develop your knowledge of core concepts in project management and enable you to develop crucial project management skills required to deliver projects successfully in organisations. You will gain in-depth understanding of the project management life cycle, project management strategies and project management software tools such as Microsoft Project.
On successful completion of the module, you will be able to: identify key project management tools and critically discuss how they can be used to effectively manage and enhance business performance; list and explain the stages of the project life cycle; critically evaluate the effectiveness of project management strategies deployed by organisations and determine their suitability for a given project; undertake impact assessment of a given project for the purpose of ascertaining the appropriate sustainability and corporate social responsibility strategy for a business organisation and show teamwork, analysis and presentation skills by using project management software to manage projects and present the project plan employed.

Academic English Skills aims to provide thorough training in the language and related academic skills which will enable international students to best achieve their academic potential at university. Our Academic English programme is validated by UK ENIC, the UK government agency responsible for providing information and expert opinion on qualifications and skills worldwide.
You will develop awareness and competency in a range of language-related academic skills, including the processes of academic writing, effective and extensive reading strategies, effective participation in seminars and delivery of presentations, and listening to and recording information effectively from lectures. You will also develop the accuracy and range of written and spoken language required to use language effectively and appropriately, with clarity and confidence in an academic context.
