Program Overview

Our Physics & Philosophy with a Year Abroad BSc will allow you to investigate the fascinating connections between these two subjects, and augment your learning experience with a year at one of our partner institutions around the world. As well as enabling you to gain experience of a different culture and ways of teaching and thinking, this will give you an added advantage when looking for careers post-graduation. The host institution will make the final decision on your application to study there and it will depend on your performance in you end of year exams

Course Content
Courses are divided into modules. You will normally take modules totalling 390 credits.

Year 1

Required modules

In your first year you will take 75 credits in Physics and 45 credits in Philosophy.

Physics:
- Mathematics & Computation for Physics (30 credits)
- Classical Physics (30 credits)
- Introduction to Modern Physics (15 credits)
Philosophy

You are required to take 30 credits, one from each group:

Group A
- Elementary Logic (15 credits)
- Methodology (15 credits)
Group B
- Epistemology I (15 credits)
- Metaphysics I
Optional modules

There are no optional modules for Physics.

You are required to take 15 credits from a range of Philosophy modules, which may typically include:
- Greek Philosophy I (15 credits)
- Ethics I (15 credits)
- Modern Philosophy I (15 credits)
- Political Philosophy I (15 credits)
You can also choose to take any of the required philosophy modules listed above.

Year 2

Required modules

In your second year you will take 75 credits in Physics and 60 credits in Philosophy.

- Thermal Physics & Properties of Matter (15 credits)
- Quantum Mechanics I (15 credits)
- Electromagnetism (15 credits)

Philosophy

Year 3

You will study abroad for the whole of your third year and are required to take:
- Study Abroad Year (30 credits)
Year 4

Required modules
- Statistical Mechanics (15 credits)
- Quantum Mechanics II (15 credits)
- Third Year Project in Physics (15 credits)
Entry Requirement
Must be registered on as a student at your home university for the duration of your time at King's (i.e you cannot be on a leave of absence from your degree) and your university is transferring at least some of the credits earned at King's towards your degree.
Undergraduate students must be registered on a BA/BSc/LLB or equivalent undergraduate degree.
Undertaken a minimum of 1 year of university level study.
