Program Overview

How should we care for people with mental health issues? What’s the impact of substance misuse? Why is family-centred care important? At King’s College London, we’ll help you answer these big questions and teach you how to help people during the most challenging times of their lives.

As a mental health nurse, you need to be prepared for fast-paced, challenging situations. From forensic psychiatry to child and adolescent mental health, we’ve designed our course to equip you with the skills you need to help people facing a wide range of challenges.

Course Content
Courses are divided into modules. Each year you will normally take modules totalling 120 credits.

This is a three-year degree course in which you will take a combination of required and optional modules to total 360 credits.

Year 1

Required modules

You are required to do the following modules
- Mental Health Nursing 1 (60 credits)
- Engagement (30 credits)
- Biosciences for Mental Health Nursing (15 credits)
Year 2

Required modules

You are required to do the following modules
- Mental Health Nursing 2 (60 credits)
- Evidence Based Mental Health Nursing (30 credits)
- Pharmacology for Mental Health Nursing (15 credits)
Year 3

Required modules

You are required to do the following modules
- Mental Health Nursing 3 (60 credits)
- Impact and Dissemination of Mental Health Nursing (30 credits)
- Pharmacology for Mental Health Nursing 2 (15 credits)
Entry Requirement
Must be registered on as a student at your home university for the duration of your time at King's (i.e you cannot be on a leave of absence from your degree) and your university is transferring at least some of the credits earned at King's towards your degree.
Undergraduate students must be registered on a BA/BSc/LLB or equivalent undergraduate degree.
Undertaken a minimum of 1 year of university level study.
