Program Overview

First, we’ll guide you through what’s normal in pregnancy and birth. Then, as you delve deeper into the course, you’ll learn about the complexities that pregnant women can face. We prepare you for emergencies so you can tackle any challenge.

Working on placement in London, you’ll be exposed to a diverse range of people and situations. Some days will be challenging, but you’ll be part of a community of midwives and professionals who will support you through the ups and downs.

Throughout your second and third year you’ll take on your own caseload. You can discover first-hand what it takes to effectively support a woman from her first months of pregnancy to birth and the postnatal period.

Course Content
Structure
Courses are divided into modules. Each year you will normally take modules totalling 120 credits.

This is a three-year degree course in which you will take a combination of required and optional modules to total 360 credits.

Year 1

Required modules

You are required to do the following modules
- Biosciences for Midwifery Practice (30 credits)
- Foundations of Midwifery Practice (30 credits)
- Learning in Practice 1 (30 credits)
- Public Health and Health Promotion (15 credits)
Year 2

Required modules

You are required to do the following modules
- Complexities in Childbearing (30 credits)
- Developing Midwifery Practice (30 credits)
- Optimising Birth for Mothers & Newborns (15 credits)
- Learning in Practice 2 (30 credits)
Year 3

Required modules

You are required to do the following modules
- Newborn and Infant Physical Examinations (NIPE) (30 credits)
- The midwife as colleague, scholar and leader (30 credits)
- Student-led Midwifery Project (30 credits)
- Learning in Practice 3 (30 credits)
Entry Requirement
Must be registered on as a student at your home university for the duration of your time at King's (i.e you cannot be on a leave of absence from your degree) and your university is transferring at least some of the credits earned at King's towards your degree.
Undergraduate students must be registered on a BA/BSc/LLB or equivalent undergraduate degree.
Undertaken a minimum of 1 year of university level study.
