Mathematics & Philosophy BSc

The course is divided into modules and each year you will normally take modules totalling 120 credits.

Year 1

Required modules
In your first year, you will take 75 credits from Mathematics and 45 credits from Philosophy.

Mathematics

• Calculus I (15 credits)
• Calculus II (15 credits)
• Linear Algebra and Geometry I (15 credits)
• Sequences and Series (15 credits)
• Introduction to Dynamical Systems (15 credits)

Philosophy
In your first year you are required to take one module from each of these three groups which may typically include:

Group A

• Greek Philosophy 1 (15 credits)
• Modern Philosophy I (15 credits)

Group B

• Ethics I (15 credits)
• Political Philosophy I (15 credits)

Group C

• Metaphysics (15 credits)
• Epistemology I (15 credits)
• Methodology (15 credits)

Year 2

Required modules

Mathematics

• Introduction to Algebra (15 credits)
• Real Analysis (15 credits)
• Linear Algebra and Geometry II (15 credits)

Philosophy
You are required to take three modules from at least two of the following groups, each of which may typically include:

Group A

• Greek Philosophy IIA
• Greek Philosophy IIB
• Modern Philosophy IIA
• Modern Philosophy IIB

Group B

• Ethics IIA
• Ethics IIB
• Political Philosophy IIA
• Political Philosophy IIB

Group C

• Epistemology II (15 credits)
• Metaphysics II (15 credits)
• Introduction to Philosophy of Language (15 credits)
• Philosophy of Mind (15 credits)
• Intermediate Logic (15 credits)
• Philosophy of Physics I

Required subjects:
A-level (or equivalent) grade A in Mathematics and Further Mathematics.

Standard requirements

• The Access to Higher Education Diploma must be 60 credits in total.
• Access to Higher Education Diploma with 45 Level 3 credits overall: 36 credits must be from units awarded at Distinction, with 9 at Merit.
• The Access to Higher Education Diploma must include at least 30 Level 3 credits in Mathematics awarded at Distinction. Syllabus must contain Pure Mathematics.
• The Access to Higher Education Diploma must be in a relevant subject - Mathematics or similar - to be considered.

Contextual requirements

• The Access to Higher Education Diploma must be 60 credits in total.
• Access to Higher Education Diploma with 45 Level 3 credits overall: 30 credits must be from units awarded at Distinction, with 15 at Merit.
• The Access to Higher Education Diploma must include at least 30 Level 3 credits in Mathematics awarded at Distinction. Syllabus must contain Pure Mathematics.
• The Access to Higher Education Diploma must be in a relevant subject - Mathematics or similar - to be considered.

Tuition Fees

Full time tuition fees UK:
The UK tuition fee for the academic year is currently £9,250 per year. This is based on the UK Government’s cap.

Full time tuition fees International:
The International tuition fee for the 2022-2023 academic year is £21,840 per year.

Please note that the International tuition fee is subject to annual increases in subsequent years of study, in line with King’s terms and conditions.

All International applicants to Undergraduate programmes are required to pay a deposit of £2,000 against their first year’s tuition fee. This deposit is payable when you firmly accept an unconditional offer to study with us, and will be offset against your tuition fees when you join King’s.

If you choose the study abroad option with one of King’s partner universities, you will not be charged tuition fees by the host university (although some partners do charge a small administration fee for applying). King’s will continue to invoice for a proportion of King's tuition fees.

You should also budget to pay for the associated subsistence costs, such as travel, visas, accommodation and food as well as any vaccination/immunisations required by the country to which you are travelling.
