Program Overview

The Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in International Relations is an interdepartmental multi-disciplinary programme addressing key global challenges, issues and approaches to politics. This three- year undergraduate course will provide you with a sophisticated understanding of International Relations, both as a subject of academic study and as intellectual preparation for a wide range of career choices. You will develop the ability to handle a broad range of evidence, analyse complex issues and present arguments in a clear, concise and effective manner, both orally and in writing.

Course Content
Structure
Courses are divided into modules. Each year you will normally take modules totalling 120 credits.

Year 1

Required modules
You are required to take the following modules:
- International Relations Theory (30 credits)
- History of the International System (30 credits)
- Introduction to International Economics (30 credits)
- Conflict and Diplomacy (15 credits)
- Contemporary Security Issues (15 credits)
Year 2

Required modules

You are required to take the following modules:
- Global Politics (15 credits)
- Research Methods in War Studies and International Relations (15 credits)
Year 3

Required modules
- If you are studying the three year BA, you will take the final year modules in your third year.
- If you choose a year abroad, you will spend your third year studying abroad to earn the equivalent of 120 credits before returning to complete a final year with King’s. This will depend on reaching a certain grade average and being accepted by a partner university.
This list is subject to change and development.

You are required to take the following module:
- Dissertation (30 Credits)
You are also required to choose one 30 credit regional specialism module, which will provide an opportunity to study one area of the world in some depth. You will be expected to draw on the subject matter of your chosen regional specialism when writing your dissertation.

These modules are designed to take advantage of the current research expertise of academic staff in the department and within King’s College London to bring you to the frontiers of scholarship.

- Conflict and Security in the Middle East and North Africa (30 credits)
- Russia in the 21st Century: Foreign Policy, Identity and Security (30 credits)
- International Relations of South Asia (30 credits)
- War and International Politics in Africa (30 credits)
- Contemporary Strategy in East Asia (30 credits)
- The European Union in the International System (30 credits)
- Security and International Relations in Latin America: from Independence to the Present Day (30 credits)
Entry Requirement
Must be registered on as a student at your home university for the duration of your time at King's (i.e you cannot be on a leave of absence from your degree) and your university is transferring at least some of the credits earned at King's towards your degree.
Undergraduate students must be registered on a BA/BSc/LLB or equivalent undergraduate degree.
Undertaken a minimum of 1 year of university level study.
