Structure

Courses are divided into modules. Each year you will normally take modules totalling 120 credits.

This is a three-year degree course in which you will take a combination of required and optional modules to total 360 credits.

Year 1

Required modules

Courses are divided into modules. Each year you will normally take modules totaling 120 credits.
 

• You are also required to take the following modules:
• Medieval Worlds: Connection, Comparison and Transformation (300-1500) (30 credits)
• Early Modern Worlds (30 credits) • Making the Modern World, 1780-1900 (15 credits)
• Making the Modern World, 1900-present (15 credits)

Year 2

Required modules

You will study two required ‘History and Memory’ modules in the second year, as well as taking a number of optional modules.

Year 3

Required modules

You are required to take a 30 credit Group III module and its associated 30 credit dissertation from a range of options which may typically include:

• Britain’s Thatcher
• Caribbean Intellectual History c.1800 to the Present
• British Imperial Policy and Decolonisation, 1938-1964
• The Carolingian Empire, c.750-900
• The Making of Twentieth-Century Britain
• The American Revolution and the Creation of the United States, 1760-1815
• The Experience of Nigeria since 1900
• Between Kaiser and Fuhrer: Political Culture and Authority in Germany, 1916-1934
• History of Feminism and Women’s Political Thought

Required subjects:
None

Preferred subjects:
History A Level (or equivalent) is generally expected, however applications without can be considered where the application clearly demonstrates interest in and engagement with History as an academic subject.

Standard requirements
 

• The Access to Higher Education Diploma must be 60 credits in total.
• Access to Higher Education Diploma with 45 Level 3 credits overall: 36 credits must be from units awarded at Distinction, with 9 at Merit.
• The Access to Higher Education Diploma should be in a relevant subject - Humanities or similar - to be considered.

• The Access to Higher Education Diploma must be 60 credits in total.
• Access to Higher Education Diploma with 45 Level 3 credits overall: 30 must be from units awarded at Distinction, with 15 level 3 credits at Merit.
• The Access to Higher Education Diploma should be in a relevant subject - Humanities or similar - to be considered.

Tuition Fees

Full time tuition fees UK:
The UK tuition fee for the academic year is currently £9,250 per year. This is based on the UK Government’s cap.

Full time tuition fees International:
The International tuition fee for the academic year is £21,840 per year.

Please note that the International tuition fee is subject to annual increases in subsequent years of study, in line with King’s terms and conditions.

All International applicants to Undergraduate programmes are required to pay a deposit of £2,000 against their first year’s tuition fee. This deposit is payable when you firmly accept an unconditional offer to study with us, and will be offset against your tuition fees when you join King’s.

If you choose the study abroad option with one of King’s partner universities, you will not be charged tuition fees by the host university (although some partners do charge a small administration fee for applying). King’s will continue to invoice for a proportion of King's tuition fees.

You should also budget to pay for the associated subsistence costs, such as travel, visas, accommodation and food as well as any vaccination/immunisations required by the country to which you are travelling. 

Career prospects for King’s History graduates are excellent. Former King’s History students have found employment with national newspapers, law firms, civil service, state and private schools, heritage, banking and business sectors as well as in many different universities across the globe.

Prominent King’s History graduates include Ronan Bennett (novelist and screenwriter), Janice Hadlow (Controller of BBC Two), Georgina Henry (Executive comment editor of the Guardian newspaper) and Dina Asher-Smith (British athlete).
