Structure

Required modules

Courses are divided into modules, and students on this course take modules totalling: 180 credits
 

Part-time students should plan to take 60 credits from the required taught modules and 30 credits of optional modules in their first year, and the 90 credits dissertation module in their second year.
 

All students are required to take:

• Advanced Quantitative Research Methods (30 credits)
• Advanced Qualitative Research Methods (30 credits)
• Dissertation in Clinical Research (90 credits)

Optional modules

Students are required to take an additional 30 credits from a range of optional modules, which may typically include:
 

Optional modules are available from throughout King’s Health Faculties, including the Faculty of Life Science and Medicine, the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience and the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care.
 

Some of the optional modules have a credit value of 45 credits. You are permitted to take these modules providing there are no significant clashes

• Issues in the Conduct of Health Care Research (15 credits)
• Developing Professional Leadership (15 credits)
• Advanced Assessment Skills for Non-Medical Practitioners (30 credits)
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (30 Credits)
• Skeletal Muscle Function Fatigue & Plasticity: Movement to Molecules (15 credits)
• Health Economics (15 credits)
• Basic Epidemiology & Statistics for Public Health (15 credits)
• PhD Funding Proposal Development in Healthcare Research (30 credits)
   

Standard requirements

A minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree with a final mark of at least 60% or above.
 

If you have a lower degree classification, or a degree in an unrelated subject, your application may be considered if you can demonstrate significant relevant work experience, or offer a related graduate qualification (such as a Masters or PGDip).
 

Other requirements

Normally a Bachelor's degree with minimum 2:1 honours and a professional registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council or Health Professionals Council (or equivalent experience).
 

In order to meet the academic entry requirements for this programme you should have a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree with a final mark of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme. If you are still studying you should be achieving an average of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme.
 

If you do not meet the normal entry requirements you should pay particular attention in preparing your supporting statement and CV to ensure that you draw attention to evidence of potential success at graduate level. This might include publications, preparation of substantial reports or active participation in funded research.
 

Selection process

Applications must be made online using King’s online application portal apply.kcl.ac.uk and a non-refundable application fee of £75 applies.

UK:

• Full time: £11,040 per year (MSc 2022/23); £3,680 per year 
• Part time: £5,520 per year (MSc 2022/23); £1,840 per year
   

International:

• Full time: £24,660 per year ( MSc 2022/23); £8,220 per year 
• Part time: £12,330 per year (MSc 2022/23); £4,110 per year 
   

These tuition fees may be subject to additional increases in subsequent years of study, in line with King’s terms and conditions.
 

Deposit

When you receive an offer for this course you will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit to secure your place. The deposit will be credited towards your total fee payment.
 

The UK deposit is £500.
 

The INTERNATIONAL deposit is £2,000. 

Graduates from this course go on to develop a research or a clinical-academic career or move into a senior leadership role.
