Program Overview

Explore the ancient world on our most flexible Classical Studies degree. You'll be joining the Classics Department, ranked 1st in the UK for research excellence (REF 2021). On the Classical Studies BA, you can investigate all aspects of Greece and Rome, with further modules offered on the Near East, Byzantium, and modern Greece. You may also explore the influence of Greece and Rome on later history and culture, including the contemporary world. With no required modules, this is our most flexible degree – allowing you to shape your pathway based on your own areas of interest.

Course Content
Structure

Courses are divided into modules. Each year you will normally take modules totalling 120 credits.

This is a three-year degree course in which you will take a combination of required and optional modules to total 360 credits.

Year 1

Required modules

There are no required modules at any stage of this course. Instead you will select from a range of optional modules to achieve a total of 120 credits for each year of the course.

Optional modules

You are required to take 120 credits, which may include 30-credits of Greek or Latin language acquisition, from a range of optional modules which may typically include:
- Art & Archaeology of Greece & Rome (30 credits)
- Introduction to Ancient History (c 1200 BC– AD 600), (30 credits)
- Greek & Latin Literature: An Introduction (30 credits)
- Greek Language 1 (30 credits)
- Latin Language 1 (30 credits)
- Receptions of the Past: The Hellenic World from Antiquity to Today (15 credits)
- Introduction to the Byzantine World
Year 2

Required modules

There are no required modules at any stage of this course. Instead you will select from a range of optional modules to achieve a total of 120 credits for each year of the course.

If you are taking linear A-levels in England, you will be required to pass the practical endorsement in all Science subjects. This is with the exception of private candidates who are unable to take the practical component.

The Access to Higher Education Diploma must be 60 credits in total.

Fees & Scholarships
Tuition Fees

Full time tuition fees UK:

The UK tuition fee is currently £9,250 per year. This is based on the UK Government’s cap.

Full time tuition fees International:

The International tuition fee is £21,840 per year.

Please note that the International tuition fee is subject to annual increases in subsequent years of study, in line with King’s terms and conditions.

All International applicants to Undergraduate programmes are required to pay a deposit of £2,000 against their first year’s tuition fee. This deposit is payable when you firmly accept an unconditional offer to study with us, and will be offset against your tuition fees when you join King’s.

If you choose the study abroad option with one of King’s partner universities, you will not be charged tuition fees by the host university (although some partners do charge a small administration fee for applying). King’s will continue to invoice for a proportion of King's tuition fees. You should also budget to pay for the associated subsistence costs, such as travel, visas, accommodation and food as well as any vaccination/immunisations required by the country to which you are travelling.
