Overview
About
Harper Adams University, founded in 1901, is concerned with food production, animal science, land business, and sustainable management. In April 1901, the college welcomed its first six students. The college consisted of the main building and a 178-acre farm on its doorstep, as well as Ancellor House, the family farmhouse. During these early years, the college, led by Principal Hedworth Foulkes, offered certificate courses that were primarily practical in nature. Harper Adams University has been inspiring and assisting students to achieve their goals for over 115 years.
Thomas Harper Adams was an affluent gentleman farmer from Shropshire. When he died in 1892, he left his substantial estate 'for the purpose of teaching theoretical and practical agriculture'. Agricultural education received significant financial support in the 1890s, and several agricultural colleges and university departments emerged at this time. Harper Adams Agricultural College, on the other hand, was the first of its kind to be funded by a private endowment.
Harper Adams University received the 6th highest score in the nation for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2014 due to the high quality of its teaching, learning resources, and personal and career development opportunities. Agriculture, animal health and veterinary nursing, tourism, agri-food marketing and business management, agricultural engineering and off-road vehicle design, estate and countryside management, fresh produce management, food studies, and food retail management are all available as undergraduate courses. The university also provides a variety of master's degrees as well as research opportunities at the PhD and post-doctoral levels. Barbara Woodhouse, a former TV Personality, Christopher Borrett, a cricketer and Rachael Hamilton, a politician are some of the notable alumni of the university. The university offers various benefits to its alumni.
