Course modules
 

• Students will undertake the same modules as the MSc Physiotherapy pre-registration in year one. These include Neuromusculoskeletal 1 and 2, Health Promotion, Neurorehabilitation, Cardiorespiratory Therapy and Practice Evaluation. In addition, students will undertake the Advanced Research Enquiry module.
• Doctoral level modules in Years two - four involve personal and professional development in the context of physiotherapy practice and research. Students will have the opportunity to conduct two innovative research projects.
• Students also undertake over 1,050 hours of clinical education in a range of practice settings, which includes a contemporary placement and an elective placement.

Academic requirements
 

• UK honours degree 2:1 (or equivalent) in a science discipline related to physiotherapy such as physiology, human biology, anatomy, kinesiology, sports science/medicine.
• Experience in the process of research is essential. The honours degree must have contained a substantial element of human physiology.
• A pre-entry negotiated learning module is available to applicants who have limited human physiology experience. Shortlisted applicants must attend an interview. International applicants are offered a telephone/Skype interview.
• Applicants should have an understanding of the role of physiotherapy practice and research within the current health and well-being agenda. Relevant visits to clinical locations, voluntary work or part-time employment in an area where the impact of disability is experienced are desirable, but not essential.
• Students have to clearly articulate their motivations for applying to the DPT course.

Additional requirements
 

• Students should enter the Doctor of Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) programme at a level appropriate to their prior learning and qualifications.
• Students who are able to demonstrate prior learning in specific modules are eligible to apply for exemption from undertaking the module.
• This course is now closed to international/EU (without pre-settled status) applicants for September 2022. It remains open to new applications from the UK and Republic of Ireland for the September 2022 intake.

English language requirements
IELTS score of 7.0 (or equivalent) with no element below 6.5.

Annual full-time tuition fees
 

• Home (Scottish) and RUK: £9,000
• International: £16,500

As a student at the University, there are additional fees and costs which may or may not apply to you, but that you should be aware of.

Recently students have obtained physiotherapy posts in Europe, New Zealand, Canada, USA and Hong Kong and Singapore. Applications to some of these counties require an application that reviews the course specifics and the individual student profile. You may also need to undertake additional exams.
