Important information regarding COVID-19 vaccination
Clinical placements are an exciting and essential part of the training required to become a qualified Speech and Language Therapist.
To protect students, staff and patients during these experiences, we strongly encourage our students to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (unless medically exempt).
University preparation programmes
If you do not qualify for direct entry, you may wish to take a foundation programme first. These programmes are designed to prepare students for entry to City's undergraduate courses.
Access to HE Diploma
Pass in a QAA recognised Access to HE Diploma in a health or science related subject achieving 60 credits overall with 45 at Level 3 (36 at Distinction and 9 at Merit). Applicants must hold GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C (4) or above.
Introduction to Health Sciences
If you do not meet the entry requirements for this course, you may be interested in our Introduction to Health Sciences course. This is completed over one year and provides an introduction to clinical and professional healthcare, enabling you to progress on to this course on successful completion (subject to meeting progression criteria, please visit the Introduction to Health Sciences course page for more details).
Selection process
As well as meeting the stated academic entry requirements, applicants will be required to attend an online interview as part of the selection process, to ensure that your values match those of the NHS Constitution.
Students are required to have occupational health and enhanced DBS (disclosure and barring service) clearance. Academic and character references are also required. Please see the Entry Requirements page for full information.
Mixed qualifications
We often use tariff points within our offers. Any conditional offer based on tariff is likely to only be based on the equivalent of an applicant's top three A-level grades.
Subject exclusions
We do not accept General Studies and Critical Thinking. These subjects will not be included in any conditional offer we make.
Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
We welcome applications from students who are completing relevant EPQ Projects. Whilst we recognise the value of these projects in preparing students for independent learning at university, the EPQ is unlikely to form part of any conditional offer we make.
The EPQ will also not lower the specifics of any conditional offer we choose to make. We will consider the EPQ as part of the holistic assessment of the application and it could be used to form part of our final decision at Confirmation stage.
AS levels
We recognise that there will be differences of opportunity varying by school and college. As not all students will have the opportunity to sit AS Level exams, it is unlikely we will include AS Level grades in any offer we choose to make.
Where students have completed an AS Level subject, we will consider this as part of the holistic assessment of the application and it could be used to form part of our final decision at Confirmation stage.
Master in Speech and Language Therapy (MSLT) entry
Students who achieve an aggregate of at least 60% across years one and two of the BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy course have the option of transferring to the MSLT at the start of the third year. The MSLT has the same UCAS code as the BSc (Hons).
