Modules
With the exception of one optional module (Practical Audiology) the programme is delivered online through a mix of live teaching sessions, typically on Zoom, supplemented by pre-recorded teaching made available on our online learning platform.

Practical Audiology will be taught on campus in our specialist labs

To gain the MSc or a Postgraduate Diploma you will study one core module and between 4 and 6 optional modules (the number taken will depend on their credit value).

Your optional modules must include at least two discipline-specific modules (related to speech, language, communication or swallowing) totalling 45 credits. The others can also be discipline specific or chosen from level 7 module options across the School of Health and Psychological Sciences.

Discipline specific modules run in the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms. A typical 15-credit module involves between 20 and 30 hours of teaching.

For all modules, you will undertake extensive additional private study (at least eight hours a week).

In order to gain the MSc you will undertake a research dissertation, in addition to the taught modules. The dissertation involves up to one year of independent data collection/analysis and study, supported by a supervisor.

To gain a Postgraduate Certificate in Speech Language and Communication you will need to complete two, three or four modules totalling 60 credits. These must include at least two discipline-specific modules in the area of speech, language, communication or swallowing.

Full-time students complete the taught modules in one year, for example taking three or four modules per term. Part-time students complete them over two years.

To apply for this course, you should hold one of the following:

A first or second-class honours degree, (or international equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy
A first or second-class honours degree in a related field e.g. Psychology, Linguistics, Special Education.
 

English language requirements

If your first language is not English, one of the following qualifications is required:

IELTS: 7.0
Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: 72.
TOEFL 100 overall
