Overview

About

Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) is one of the two public universities in the English city of Lincoln (the other being the University of Lincoln). In 1862, BGU was founded as a college for teacher education by the Diocese of Lincoln. In 1862, the Lincoln Diocesan Training School for Mistresses was established. It was located on the site of an earlier, unsuccessful training facility for male teachers, which had been constructed in 1842 and included a church, lecture halls, and a school where teachers could practice their craft. Later, it was renamed Lincoln Diocesan Training College, and in 1962, to commemorate its centennial, Bishop Grosseteste College.

Dame Judith Mayhew Jonas was chosen to lead the university as its Chancellor in 2008. It obtained the ability to grant taught degrees in 2012, applied for full university status, and received it on December 3rd of 2013. The law governing the use of the term university was changed in 2012, allowing institutions of higher education with more than 1,000 students to apply for university status.

There are numerous entry points into teaching, including the BA, BSc, and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Numerous topics also offer joint honors choices and major/minor study alternatives. Lectures, seminars, workshops, practicals, and work-related placements are all used as teaching methods. The university confers BSc degrees in four topics, foundation degrees in education, childhood, and youth work, and BA degrees in 17 subjects, including primary education, special education, and early childhood studies. The university also grants PGCEs, MA degrees in 8 subjects, and doctorates in addition to degrees with QTS. The doctoral study can result in either a Ph.D. or an EdD and is carried out in collaboration with the University of Leicester.

Ranking

Students are taught to teach while working in the maintenance sector due to the university's affiliation with New College Stamford and Lincoln College for initial teacher education. In each of the four judgments, Ofsted rated the provision as “Good Overall Effectiveness“, ” Good Outcomes for Trainees“, ”Good Quality of Training“ and “Good Quality of Leadership and Management.” Take a look at some of Bishop Grosseteste University's rankings given below -

Facilities

Aside from the CEO, there are two full-time sabbatical officers, a part-time volunteer team of 15 students, and six administrative and communication support staff members that handle the Bishop Grosseteste Students' Union (BGSU). All year long, they offer activities, entertainment, and pastoral and academic support. One of the union's main responsibilities is to offer representational services to BGU students through the Course Reps program. Under this program, a representative from each course offers input and helps to define the course framework.

The Bishop Grosseteste Students' Union not only provides training for participation but also represents the interests of the students in British Universities and College Sports leagues. In their respective BUCS leagues, all of the existing sports clubs compete. The rugby union and badminton teams made their debuts in the 2012-2013 season, while the netball squad has earned successive promotions since its inception. A non-standard size sports hall, a gym with cardio and resistance equipment as well as a weights room, and a field with two football fields make up the university's sports and fitness center.
