On the Energy, Trade and Finance master’s programme, you will:

• Develop your knowledge and understanding of the economics of exhaustible and renewable energy sources, their key supply and demand determinants, as well as their transportation, trading, pricing and risk aspects.
• Demonstrate a systematic understanding of corporate finance, as well as financial markets, institutions and instruments.
• Understand and critically evaluate current international issues in energy and commodities, finance and trade.
• Formulate decisions in the energy sub-sectors of oil, gas, electricity, involving aspects such as refinery/petrochemical economics, energy transport solutions (pipeline/ship), generation and distribution of electricity, and managing energy risk.
• Analyse factors affecting the energy, finance and commodity trade sectors.
• Enhance your technical and analytical skills by learning applied quantitative techniques and software programmes that are required when working in the fields of energy, commodities, trade, transportation and finance.

• A UK upper second class degree or above, or the equivalent from an overseas institution.
• Some level of previous study in finance or quantitative methods is preferred
• Work experience is not a requirement of this course.

Interview

• Applicants selected by the Admissions panel will be invited to an online interview with the course director. We will contact all selected applicants with full instructions after the Admissions Panel has made an initial assessment of your application.

English Language Requirements

• A UK upper second class degree or above, or the equivalent from an overseas institution, in a highly quantitative programme such as mathematics or statistics is required to enter this course
• Work experience is not a requirement of this course.
• If you have been studying in the UK for the last three years it is unlikely that you will have to take the IELTS test
• If you have studied a 2+2 degree with just two years in the UK you will be required to provide IELTS results and possibly to resit the tests to meet our requirements.

IELTS

The required IELTS level is an average of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.5 in the writing section and no less than 6.0 in any other section.

Fees in each subsequent year of study (where applicable) will be subject to an annual increase of 2%. We will confirm any change to the annual tuition fee to you in writing prior to you commencing each subsequent year of study (where applicable).

• Commodity trading houses (e.g. Glencore, LITASCO, Trafigura)
• Oil & gas companies (e.g. ENI, Shell, Total)
• Professional services and specialist consultancy firms (e.g. KPMG, PwC, Wood McKenzie)
• Shipping-related companies (e.g. Arrow Shipbroking Group, Clarksons Platou)
• Information providers about energy and commodity markets (e.g. Argus Media, S&P Global Platts)
