Year 1:
In Year 1, we’ll look at local and national needs for health and social care and the public, private, and voluntary organisations available to meet these needs.
All functional areas of business have a role to play in service excellence, so we’ll explore performance contributions from human resources, operations scheduling, quality control, and finance and record keeping, with comprehensive and systematic coverage of service operations. You will develop an understanding of economic concepts, accounting principles and mathematics.
You’ll also develop employability skills through learning methods such as critical thinking and group work.
Modules are subject to change and availability.
We’ll assess your progress through a variety of methods, including coursework, group assignments, activity-based assignments and exams. You can expect to take part in ongoing problem-solving activities, projects and presentations. You’ll also be able to access support material through our virtual learning environment.
All assignments are designed with your career progression in mind and give you opportunities to develop and improve the transferable skills that employers look for.
Year 2:
Innovation and entrepreneurship are evident in all industries, including healthcare. Many innovations start as small business ideas. Year 2 aims to develop your innovation and entrepreneurial skills, so that you can cultivate ideas into effective, operative businesses.
Anyone who’s preparing to work in the business world should have an understanding of HR, so we’ll introduce you to the theoretical basis for human resource management and activities covered by the function. We’ll also explore the role that marketing can play in implementing and controlling the planning process at domestic and international levels. And finally IT is an often-overlooked factor in healthcare; you’ll utilise IT to meet business objectives, and make a positive, practical impact in the workplace.

Year 3:
In Year 3, we’ll approach contemporary themes that provide stability, growth, success, and opposing reactions, in healthcare practice and policy. This includes exploring customer service management, modern facilities, and financial challenges.
You’ll evaluate an organisation's situation, analysis and selection of strategic alternatives, and implementation and evaluation of their strategic plan – at the same time developing your teamwork, communication and analytical skills.
After assessing a range of theoretical and practical approaches to leading change, with particular emphasis on people management issues, we’ll ask you to evaluate the different types of leaders and organisational change which are evident from case studies. Your Undergraduate Major Project is a chance to engage in individual research, based upon a real-world case study.
