MA Computer Games Development (Art)

This postgraduate degree runs in parallel with our MSc Computer Games Development (Computing), reflecting the multi-disciplinary nature of games creation.

In the first of two games development modules you’ll apply your existing skills to complex interdisciplinary projects, testing games design theory in a framework that will allow you to collaboratively plan successive games projects.

You’ll later develop a project that focuses on creating an innovative games experience. We’ll challenge you to develop projects with a target platform, audience and reward strategy in mind, and to reflect professional, legal and ethical issues in your game design.

Two research modules will introduce you to a range of core research methods in the creative and visual arts. You’ll explore the interaction of critical theory and studio practice, and the relationships between scholarship, reflective analysis and creative impulse.

The Masters Project is a self-directed visual project with reflective commentary, and the culmination of your learning on the course.

You’ll show your progress through a combination of written and practical work, carried out individually and as part of a team.

Main

• A good honours degree (or equivalent), normally in a related subject. Applicants with professional experience are also encouraged to apply.
• If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 ( Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.

Interview and portfolio

• You will be required to attend an interview of around 20 minutes, during which you will evidence your discussion with a portfolio or, if you are resident outside of the UK, an e-portfolio.

Our MA Computer Games Development (Art) gives you the chance to specialise in the design and technical implementation of computer games, whether you already have a games-related degree, you’ve recently graduated with a degree in a related subject, or you work in another creative industry and are looking to move into this area.

The skills you’ll learn are relevant to other forms of games – including board and educational games – allowing you to consider various career options in these areas too. You might also pursue roles in gamification, user experience (UX), visual effects (VFX) or project management.
