Prepare to practise as a solicitor by learning a variety of aspects of law and keep up to date with the latest opportunities in the legal profession.

You’re a law graduate with ambitions to work as a solicitor. You want to enhance your legal knowledge and gain hands-on experience, backed up by professional careers advice.

The Legal Practice Course is designed for Law graduates who want to pursue a career as a solicitor.
It’s flexible, so you can fit your studies around other commitments with two days on campus every week and i-lectures that you can access remotely.

Course Content
TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT

Whole course

Our Legal Practice Course features 11 core modules which offer a broad foundation for a career in law.
The modules include Litigation, which covers 60% civil litigation and 40% criminal litigation; Practical Legal Research, to refine your research skills and learn how to present your findings effectively; and Writing, to finesse your legal writing to avoid ambiguity. Teaching will include large group sessions, online lectures and two days on-campus teaching per week (for 2021-22 you can opt to join on-campus lectures remotely).

You can also choose to explore three additional subjects, from our list of optional modules.

Throughout the course, we’ll assess your progress through a combination of timed open book supervised assessments, oral practical and coursework-style. You’ll also undertake full-scale mock assessments in all areas, including all skills subjects.

Entry Requirement
A recognised pre-Masters course.
3 year Bachelors or 4 year Bachelor Engineering or Technology, minimum division 2 (50% - 59%) in relevant subjects.
4 year Bachelor of Laws complying with above for entry to LLM.
Bachelor’s degree from the University of Delhi or the University of Calcutta with 45%.

Our Legal Practice Course will prepare you for life as a practising solicitor in England or Wales. When you graduate, you’ll be ready to continue on to the two-year training contract that will fully qualify you for professional practice*.
You’ll most likely choose to complete your two-year training contract with a firm of solicitors in private practice, but might prefer to take one with an alternative employer, such as the UK Government (through the Government Legal Service), local government, the Crown Prosecution Service or a law centre.

Whatever you decide, you can be sure of receiving specialised guidance for your career in law, through our links with practitioners. We’ll also keep you up to date on vacancies in the legal job market.

Graduation doesn’t have to be the end of your time with us. You could choose to continue your academic career with a Masters or research programme at ARU.
