TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT

12 months full-time (September start)

Year 1

Our Masters degree offers a range of modules that cover the broad theoretical and detailed practical knowledge you will need for a career in animal conservation.

An intensive technical training in animal behaviour is coupled with a module on Behavioural Ecology and Conservation. This will equip you to select and apply animal behaviour techniques effective in a range of settings.

Other core modules include an exploration of topical issues in wildlife conservation, updated year on year, and offered through a combination of distance learning and research seminars in Cambridge.

As well as research skills, you’ll gain communication skills important in your future career as a scientist or conservationist engaging with non-governmental organisations and the wider public.

Optional modules include the opportunity to investigate the growing research field of animal communication, and a laboratory-based introduction to DNA technologies widely used in modern conservation and animal behaviour research.

Your Research Project is your opportunity to explore in depth a topic of particular interest and in which you can develop a significant level of expertise.

Your work will be assessed in a range of ways to reflect the scope and aims of our course. These include written assignments such as scientific reports and essays, field-work, case studies, group work and presentations.

Main
A first degree, with Honours, in a Science related subject and at a minimum final classification of upper second (2:1). Applicants with slightly lower qualifications may be considered if they have substantial work experience in conservation.

If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 ( Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.

Tuition fees for international students (2022/23)
£15,000

International students starting 2022/23 (full-time, per year)

You can pay your tuition fees upfront, in full or in two instalments. We will also ask you for a deposit of £4,000 or a sponsorship letter. Details will be in your offer letter.

Careers
Graduates of our MSc Animal Behaviour Applications for Conservation build successful careers in many roles including as a conservation biologist, scientist or curator at a zoo, conservation educator, or in ecotourism or environmental consultancy.

As a conservationist you can choose to work with many organisations, from private companies to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and government departments.

Graduation doesn’t have to be the end of your time with us. You could choose to continue your academic career with a research programme at ARU, such as our PhD Biology. Take advantage of our Alumni Scholarship and save £400 on your fees.
