Year 1

Introduction to Data Science (MAT510) 

• An introduction to data science and the typical data life cycle. You will gain the fundamental understanding and knowledge of the tools underpinning data science in light of rapid technological changes. Discover real-world problems and challenges involving the use of data in industry, science, and the public sector.
   

User Experience Research (CMP513) 

• We will give you the knowledge and skills to investigate UX in the context of human-centred data science. You will design a data-driven experiment to investigate human behaviours and understand the process of selecting and capturing pertinent data to answer specific questions
  .

Human Psychology: In what ways are we all the same (PSY555) 

• Learn how psychology works as a science and participate in experiments that deepen your understanding. You will develop a critical understanding of the major topics, empirical research, theoretical and formal approaches in human psychology and how these apply to the development of AI.
   

Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (CMP511) 

• Gain AI specialist knowledge and skills so you can develop user-facing solutions that demonstrate your understanding of human behaviours. You will develop a user-facing AI solution, by evaluating and selecting the optimal ML/AI technique.
   

Applied Analytics Case Studies (CMP512) 

• This helps to consolidate your knowledge of applied analytics so you can analyse human behaviours and UX, based on case studies. These case studies will highlight the limitations of the state of the art, or novel use of the latest theories and technologies.
   

Human Psychology: Why are we different (PS567) 

• You will gain a critical and comprehensive understanding of the main factors that create diversity in human behaviour and how this diversity is studied. This includes evaluating the main theoretical approaches to human development and individual differences. Assess how biology and the environment shape the development of human behaviour.
   

Masters Project (1) (CMP504) 

• Select, plan, conduct and write up a research-based investigation for the Masters Project. The project will include the selection of appropriate research and experimental methods, the collection and analysis of data/information and the evaluation and communication of findings. The result is a solution appropriate to the project aims and a dissertation.

Applicants should have a minimum of a lower second-class (2:2) honours degree in either Design, Engineering, Computing, Physical, Natural, Life or Biological sciences. The course is designed for students with some experience of scripting.
 

Applicants who did not cover the appropriate subjects during their degree will be considered if they have relevant industry experience.
 

If English is NOT your first language, you will need to show that you meet our English language requirements. This means you need a valid, recent, English language qualification.
 

Accepted English language qualifications include:

• IELTS - overall score of 6.0 with no band lower than 5.5

• TOEFL - overall score of 78 (individual elements: L-17, R-18, S-20, W-17)

• Cambridge FCE/CAE/CPE - overall score of 169 on Cambridge Grading Scale

• Skills for English (SQA/PSI) - B2 with Pass with Merit 

• International Baccalaureate - English B at S5 or H4, English A no specific grade required

• European Baccalaureate - English Language 1 at grade 6 or English Language 2 at grade 7

The fees for Postgraduate Degree Programme is £17000 annually for tuition fees. The fee's prices may get higher for International Students.

When you graduate, you’ll have a solid grounding in Data and AI techniques along with specialist knowledge and skills in Psychology and UX. Our aim is to create the next generation of AI talent, who recognise the role of human behaviour in technology use. Both the UK and Scottish Governments have urgently called for an increase in Data and AI skills, and the need for talented AI professionals at all levels is growing every year.
