About
The University of Wollongong in Dubai was founded in 1993 by the University of Wollongong (UOW) in Australia as the Institute of Australian Studies (IAS). UOW became Australia's first tertiary establishment to be represented in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the first global university to establish a campus in the UAE with the establishment of IAS. IAS initially only provided a few English language programmes.
In 1995, it was designated as a 'feeder college,' where students completed a portion of a degree in IT or business before departing for Australia to complete the programme. The institute was inaugurated initially as UOW, Dubai Campus in October 2000. It was founded in 2004 as UOWD. It offers over 45 undergraduate, postgraduate, language, foundation, short, and research programmes in management, business, engineering, sciences, languages, humanities, finance, accounting, health, and social sciences.
The university has over 3,500 students from 108 countries and over 380 staff members from 49 countries. The multicultural environment aids in the development of students' global perspectives. The university has close ties with the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom and the University of Western Australia in Australia. The UOWD campus is located in Knowledge Park in Dubai, UAE, and it has an impressive infrastructure as well as a plethora of educational and recreational facilities for its students.
