Overview

About

Lund University is a prestigious institution known for its rich history. It was established when a Franciscan studium generale was first founded in Lund in 1666. This university is not only one of Sweden's prominent public research universities but also one of the oldest in northern Europe. Its inception came about following Sweden's acquisition of Scania from Denmark in the 1658 Treaty of Roskilde. This eventually led to the official establishment of Lund University at the site of the former studium generale, adjacent to Lund Cathedral.

The campus’ focal point is Lundagård Park, which is right next to the Lund Cathedral. Its various departments are located in different parts of the town but they are predominantly clustered northward from the park which links to the university hospital area and extends further to the northeastern outskirts of the town. This is where students can locate the expansive campus of the Faculty of Engineering.

Lund University in Sweden maintains a moderately selective acceptance rate of approximately 34%. In practical terms, this indicates that out of every 100 applications received, Lund extends admission to 34 prospective students. This selectivity underscores Lund University's commitment to admitting individuals who demonstrate both qualifications and a strong motivation to excel in their chosen programs.

The university houses nine faculties and also has campuses in the cities of Malmö and Helsingborg. The institution enrols approximately 45,000 students across 270 distinct programmes and offers an additional 1,500 standalone courses. There are also over 650 partner universities spanning around 75 countries and hold memberships in prestigious organisations like the League of European Research Universities and the worldwide Universitas 21 network.

Notable people affiliated with the university include four Nobel Prize laureates, a recipient of the Fields Medal, several Prime Ministers, numerous influential business leaders and even an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court.
