Engineering Computing

Solve engineering problems using an engineering maths and analysis package by writing script files or a program and plotting and analysing graphs.
Develop a program to a specification by devising, coding and testing an algorithm to solve a specified problem. Use software packages, including spreadsheets, database and discipline specific software to produce engineering solutions.

Engineering Mechanics

Understand and analyse basic theory and principles of forces in mechanics and their relationship to engineering applications.
Analyse motion, forces and motion, work and energy problems and their relationship to engineering applications. Understand and analyse the principles of fluids. Demonstrate and apply an understanding of the relevant theories and processes of communication in an engineering context including written and oral communications.

Engineering Communication

Critically evaluate and apply a Treaty of Waitangi relationships framework perspective in working with community stakeholders; identify and apply intercultural communication strategies. Demonstrate and apply an understanding of graphical and symbolic technical product documentation in an engineering context. Understand professional and academic researching, referencing, and reporting protocols.

Engineering Mathematics 1

Understand and analyse graphs. Manipulate and solve algebraic expressions and equations. Manipulate and apply complex numbers. Use matrices to solve problems.
Apply differentiation and integration mathematical techniques to solve engineering problems. Derivation and solution of differential equations

Engineering Design and Drawing

Understand and apply the principles, standards, and techniques of design and drawing used in engineering contexts. Use models and drawings to meet given briefs and communicate outcomes of solutions.

• University Entrance – NCEA Level 3 including:

Three subjects at level 3 including:

• Physics with a minimum of 14 credits

• Calculus with a minimum of 14 credits, and

• one other subject with a minimum of 14 credits from the list of approved subjects* and

• Literacy - 10 credits at Level 2 or above, made up of 5 credits in reading, 5 credits in writing and

• Numeracy - 10 credits at Level 1 or above (specified achievement standards, or unit standards 26623, 26626, 26627 – all three required).

• Obtained the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering with a 60% or better overall grade average
   

OR
 

• Equivalent academic qualifications which may include University Bursary with 45% or more in both Physics and Calculus or Algebra; equivalent Cambridge score, equivalent International Baccalaureate.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Engineering Technology are internationally employable. They will be employed for their ability to assess, select and apply generic and specific engineering technology in their practice area, and for their ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
 

Graduates may also find work in research and development, technical support and application, education and communication, sales, quality and general management, or roles in local authorities and government.
