Program Overview

In the MAppLing, you’ll explore a wide range of topics in Applied Linguistics, including how to carry out research on topics related to using, learning, and teaching second and additional languages. Topics include how language shapes identity, how language knowledge is structured in the lexicon, how theoretical accounts of language acquisition inform pedagogical practice, and how to assess competence in a second or additional language.

Entry Requirement
To be accepted into this programme you will need:
- A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent qualification) with at least a B average in Linguistics, English Language, Education, or a language other than English. Consideration may be given if you have relevant professional experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree
- At least two years of professional experience in language education or a related field. Applicants without relevant experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be expected to complete bridging courses.
- To be accepted by the Head of School as capable of proceeding with the proposed course of study.
