Doctor of Philosophy [Ph.D] (Accounting)

The Doctor of Philosophy is a three year research-based degree in which students undertake a programme of approved and supervised research that leads to a thesis which critically investigates an approved topic of substance and significance, demonstrates expertise in the methods of research and scholarship, displays intellectual independence and makes a substantial original contribution to the subject area concerned, and is of publishable quality.
 

To meet the academic requirements to join either Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), CPA Australia or ACCA once you graduate from your bachelor's degree, you will need to choose Accounting as a single major and follow a specific programme of papers.
 

This means it's not possible to take a 2nd Major (8 papers) in another subject without completing 4-5 extra papers, depending on your degree.
 

However, you may still have the option of taking a Minor (4 papers) in another subject, if you wish.

A PhD consists of research carried out under the supervision of at least two staff members. The research, which must be the candidate's own work. The thesis is required to present the case for the research, outline the research undertaken and the findings and conclusions of that research. There is no coursework for this degree.
 

Entry requirements:

A bachelors with honours or masters degree with a research component of at least 30 points and have achieved at least Second Class Honours (First Division) or Distinction.
