Master of Mathematical Sciences MMathSci

The Master of Mathematical Sciences is made up of 180 points, including optional courses in a range of relevant subjects, and either a thesis or project.

You may complete the MMathSci unendorsed, or endorsed in one of the following:

• Computational and Applied Mathematics

• Mathematics

• Statistics
   

Study begins in February, and can be completed in 12-18 months full-time, or part-time for up to 3 years.
 

You can choose to complete the MMathSci unendorsed, or endorsed in one of the options below.
 

Unendorsed pathway

• MASC684 MMathSci Project (45 points) OR MASC686 MMathSci Project (60 points)

Depending on which project course you take, you will also complete another 45 or 60 points in any approved 400-level courses at UC.
 

Plus 75 points chosen from the following:

• Mathematics

• Statistics

• Data Science (excluding DATA401)

Plus 90 points of 400-level courses chosen from:
 

• Mathematics

With approval, up to 45 points can be chosen from other appropriate courses at UC.

• 60 points chosen from 400-level MATH courses (excluding MATH491)

• Mathematics

• Statistics

• Data Science (excluding DATA401)

• STAT689 MMathSci Thesis (Statistics)

• 60 points chosen from 400-level STAT courses OR DATA courses (excluding STAT491 and DATA401)

Plus 30 points of 400-level courses chosen from:

• Mathematics

• Statistics

• Data Science (excluding DATA401)

You will need to have completed a bachelor's degree in a subject relevant to mathematics (or other approved subjects), and have passed at least 60 points of your 300-level courses with at least a B grade average.
 

You may also enrol with other relevant qualifications of an equivalent standard, with approval.
 

English language requirements for postgraduate qualifications
 

If you want to study towards a postgraduate qualification, eg a Postgraduate Diploma, Masters, or PhD you must have one of the following:

Studying this degree will give you adaptable skills to work with new and emerging technologies in the field, for example Big Data and artificial intelligence, and prepare you to become a part of advanced mathematics research in the industry.
